explain the x and y theory of motivation?

We have some theory of motivation but we are going to explain only x and y at below. Mc gregor’s theory x and y theory were developed by Douglas McGregor. The two set of assumumption are made about the people work in organization.

Theory x

It is the traditional considering work and worker. It is a rigid control oriented negative and pessimistic. The assumption are as follows:

1.      Employees dislike inherently and try to avoid it.

2.      Employees avoid responsibility and work us directed by the superiors

3.      Employees look for security as they lack ambition and initiation.

4.      Employees should be controlled and threatened to get the job done.

5.      Employees avoid decision making whenever possible etc.

Theory y

Unlike theory x, theory y is a new concept. It is a flexible positive and optimistic. it tries on how to motivate the employees as explained by theory x by making positive assumption such as:

1.      Employees do not inherently dislike work

2.      Employees don’t ambition creativity and motivation.

3.      Employs accept the reasonable charge

4.      Employs are ready for decision making whenever committed

5.      Employs look for higher order need also.
