Management as a systematic body of knowledge and a distinct discipline is the product of the 20 century. The real development of management thought has been with the scientific management approach given by F.W TAYLOR though some of the concept has been developed by thinker earlier to Taylor.
1)replacing rule of thumb with science
Scientific management replace the working procedure based onn
the rule of thumb .scientific study and analysis of each job is required in
order to replace the old rule of thumb approach.
2)harmony in group activities
Harmony while discord refers to the unity of action discord refers to difference in approach .tailor has emphasized
the harmony among employer and employees to create a mutually beneficial relationship.
3)cooperation and individualism
Cooperation between management and labor is the very
foundation scientific management. In
place of individualism, close cooperation between them should be create. Taylor
has called it mental revolution.
4. development of employees : scientific management suggest
scientific selection of employees and there proper training and development. It
is essential for efficiency and production that employees are selected with due
care.
5. maximum output: scientific management is more concerted
with the continuous increase in production and productivity. The aim of both
management and employees should be to maximize the output.
6. division of responsibility: the management should be
responsible for planning the work which determine works procedure working
condition, time for completion of work etc. whereas employees should be
responsible for excusing the plan.
